Starry Night · Family care desk

Your parent's bills checked against Medicare, deadlines found, and every paper in one binder the family can read.

Send us the pile: Medicare statements, bills, visit notes, hospital discharge papers and medication lists. Within 2 business days you get one binder in date order, with every line pointing to the page it came from. It flags bills that ask for more than Medicare says your parent may be billed, appeal deadlines, and medication lists that disagree, and it includes letters drafted for you to review and send.

What's in the binder

  • Bills checked against Medicare's statement. If a bill asks for more than the Medicare Summary Notice says your parent may be billed, we show both numbers and the pages.
  • Deadlines. Denied claims with the appeal deadline worked out from the official rule, and follow-ups the records mention (tests, return visits) so you can check they're booked.
  • One timeline of visits, hospital stays and tests from every doctor, in date order, each with its page number.
  • Medication lists side by side. When the hospital's list and the doctor's list disagree, we show both, word for word, as a question to ask the prescriber. We never tell anyone to change a medicine.
  • A draft letter to the billing office when a bill asks for too much, marked "not sent". For a denied claim, the facts the official appeal form asks for, each with its page number, and a link to the form. You decide, sign and send.
  • Pages that don't belong. Another patient's page filed in your parent's records gets flagged and left out.
  • A one-page family summary to forward to brothers and sisters, so everyone reads the same facts.

What it found in a sample pile

We built a made-up family's pile to test it: 11 pages from 3 doctors, a hospital, Medicare and a billing office, including a blurry faxed page. FICTIONAL

2 medication questions

The discharge list says furosemide 40 mg twice daily; the family doctor's later list says 20 mg once daily. Potassium is on one list and missing from the other. Each one is a question for the prescriber.

A bill $182.90 too high

The cardiology bill asks for $212.32. The Medicare Summary Notice says the most the patient may be billed for that visit is $29.42. A draft letter to the billing office is ready to review.

An appeal deadline

A denied hospital-bed claim, with the last day to appeal worked out from the CMS rule: January 21, 2027.

Someone else's page

A visit note for a different patient, same doctor, same day, was in the pile. It was flagged and kept out of the binder.

See them yourself: the made-up pile, the binder and the draft letter. Real piles are messier, which is why every line points to its page.

How it works

  1. Order below. Within one business day we email you a one-page permission form. Once it's signed, you get a secure upload link.
  2. Get your parent's OK. The records are your parent's, so we need either their signed OK, or your confirmation that you hold a health care power of attorney or guardianship, with a copy.
  3. Upload what you have through that link (no account needed). PDFs, scans or clear phone photos; portal downloads work too. No logins or passwords, ever.
  4. Get the binder by email within 2 business days: a password-protected PDF to share with the family, any draft letter as a Word file, and a short summary.
  5. We delete your files and our working copies within 7 days of delivery, unless you ask us to keep them longer for an update. We confirm the deletion in writing.

What we don't do

  • No medical, legal or financial advice. We organize and point to the page; you, your parent and their professionals decide.
  • We don't contact doctors, Medicare, insurers or billing offices, and we never send anything for you.
  • We don't recommend Medicare plans and we don't sell leads to anyone.
  • We're not affiliated with Medicare, CMS or any health system.

Your parent's information

  • Used only to make your binder. Never sold, never used for ads, never used to train AI.
  • No ad trackers, analytics scripts or cookies on these pages.
  • Handled by Nick, the founder, and these service providers: Dropbox (secure upload and storage), Google Workspace (email), Anthropic (its Claude AI reads the pages; its business terms bar training on our data) and Stripe (payment; we never see card numbers).
  • Deleted within 7 days of delivery unless you ask us to keep it. Ask for a copy or deletion at any time.

Questions

Do I need my parent's permission?

Yes. The records belong to your parent. Before we read anything we need either your parent's own signed OK, or your confirmation that you're their health care power of attorney or guardian, with a copy. Brothers and sisters you share the binder with should be people your parent is comfortable seeing it.

What if the papers are scattered across five doctors and a shoebox?

That's the point. Send everything you have, in any order. We sort it into one timeline and tell you which pages we couldn't read.

What does "cited" mean?

Every line in the binder ends with the page it came from, like "(p.14)". Anyone in the family can open that page and check it, instead of trusting a summary.

Isn't there free help with Medicare?

Yes, and you should use it. Every state has a SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) with free, unbiased counselors for Medicare questions: find yours at shiphelp.org. What we add is the sorting: going through the whole pile, matching every bill to Medicare's statement, and putting it in one binder the family can read. Many families will want both.

Is a person involved, or is it all AI?

AI reads the pages; code checks every line against the page it cites, and anything that doesn't match goes on a "needs a look" list. A person reviews the binder before it's sent.

Is this covered by HIPAA?

HIPAA covers doctors, hospitals and insurers, not services a family chooses, so we don't claim to be HIPAA compliant. We follow the privacy policy linked above, and consumer health privacy and breach-notice rules apply to us.
